Debbie's QPlan Success Story

Debbie’s QPlan Story

After experiencing professional success with the QPlan in her leadership role at Tonya Jones Salonspas, Debbie Rodriguez created a QPlan to apply to improving her home life. Read below to hear Debbie's incredible story of how she used this tool to become a better mother, wife, and woman!

“I wanted to be as honest as possible in this story, because it really has changed so much about me. I’m really hard on myself, and I used to get really sad because I just didn’t feel like I was doing anything right. I can’t tell you how many nights I would cry and tell my husband that I wake up every day trying to make everyone around me happy, and at then at the end of the day I always felt like I was letting him down, my kids down, and my boss down. I don’t feel like that anymore. I can’t even tell you the last time I have felt like that that. And you have know idea how much that’s changed me.”

My QPlan Story

Admittedly, I am a complete workaholic. I’ve always been that way; it’s a large part of who I am. I don’t like the notion of work/life balance because it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. There just aren’t enough hours in the day for me to have as much of a life as much as I work. But that all comes with it’s own challenges. I have three children and an extremely supportive husband, and they were dealing with what scraps of time were left with me at the end of the day. And I certainly wasn’t at my best! At the Qnity Retreat six months ago, I really started to rethink how I was approaching my life. On my QPlan, I focused my hopes and dreams on the premise of having more balance to my life. I never once thought I would accomplish all of those things, I approached it more from a “In a perfect world, I would do….xyz”.

My hopes and dreams (on my QPlan) consisted of:

1. Investing more time in my marriage and my relationships with my children,

2. Eating healthier

3. Starting yoga

4. Getting a stronger foothold on our financial future.

The last image I used on my QPlan was the quote “You are more capable of more than you know” to remind me that I could do this if I tried. I just needed to have the confidence to try. I decided to glance at it every day and just see what happened.

...Six Months Later

Debbie and family 2

Fast forward 6 months and I am happy to report my husband and I went on our first date of 2015. Granted it was in December, but small wins, right? And that was just the first step. Now we have our sitter scheduled every other week for date night and we’re having fun again. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the day to day and all of a sudden you can’t remember the last time you just had fun. I also make sure that every evening when I’m home from work, my phone is put up until my kids are in bed. That sounds like such a little thing, but I can’t tell you the difference it’s made in how much fun I have with my children and how happy they are to have me fully engaged at home during the week. I thought we laughed and had fun before, but it’s nothing like our home life now. Fast forward 6 months and my husband and I have a better handle on our savings, we finally have life insurance policies, and we have a separate savings account for fun purchases and vacations. I went on the first vacation I had taken in 5 years last year, and we are planning this year’s vacation right now. We finished birthday shopping for my son in December, and his birthday isn’t until February! With just a little bit of focus, we’ve been able to get a jump start to our year. Fast forward 6 months and we meal plan each week and my family is eating healthier than ever before. We are saving so much money on not eating out at the last minute because we didn’t have a plan for dinner. My husband and I are healthier, happier and have more energy than we’ve had in a long time. Fast forward 6 months and I have now been doing yoga for 2 months. And I love it even more than I imagined I would. I’ve lost weight and inches, gained confidence and peace in a way I never dreamed possible, and I’m starting to not sweat the small stuff so much. I practice 3-4 times a week and build it into my schedule each week to make sure I don’t miss my classes.

My outlook on life and the joy and peace I live each day with is radically different from 6 months ago, and I can honestly say if I hadn’t made that QPlan, I wouldn’t have accomplished even one of these goals.
